École Centennial School

Chinook School Division
Swift Current, Saskatchewan

To address infrastructure challenges and the needs of a growing population, aodbt worked in collaboration with the Chinook School Division to develop a new Pre-K-8 French Immersion school for the City of Swift Current. As part of a larger joint-use facility, École Centennial School is located in the City’s Northeast on the same site as the Cypress Regional Health Facility, City of Swift Current, and the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division (HTCSD). The partnership with HTCSD is especially crucial as the two school divisions work closely in the delivery of a more collaborative learning environment. The central space connecting the two schools house shared practical and applied arts area and a library, which is designed as an integrated learning studio. Unlike a traditional school, the two storey facility is designed to have junior students on the main floor wings and senior students on the second floor. The main floor is highlighted by a “Carrefour” (Crossroads) space that can be used for a variety of activities, ranging from a secondary gym to formal education space. Other shared facilities include a field house, aquatics centre, art gallery, theatre, and public service area. This project has achieved LEED Silver Certification.
