Ille a la Crosse, Saskatchewan
Ile-a-la Crosse is a unique rural community in Northern Saskatchewan. Its historic roots and its isolation in being surrounded by water make it a very independent community. The Integrated Services Centre was designed with the area’s location and history in mind, as natural elements were used throughout the building. The roof’s shape was designed to look like a canoe being portaged, reminiscent of an era when the canoe was the major mode of transportation. The Ile-a-la-Crosse Integrated Services Centre is a joint-use facility that consists of an acute care hospital, a long term care facility, community health centres, Rossignol High School, a community library, multi-purpose areas, and recreation facilities. Stakeholder engagement throughout the project was integral to design and construct a functioning facility that meets the needs of all user groups.
