Our own Saskatoon office is the result of an adaptive reuse of an old industrial warehouse into a dynamic and playful new office space that is spacious and encourages collaboration through teaming spaces. The project provided us with an exciting opportunity to incorporate sustainable design into our office space and to explore new, more effective ways of working together in a healthier, more open environment.

The open-concept studio encourages collaboration with an emphasis on natural light, acoustics, and ergonomics. The single massive ‘living room’ window across the north face of the building brings in the soft north light and provides a view out for everyone. The generous staff room provides a space to get away from the computer screen and relax together. The lighting is controlled through occupancy sensors and daylight harvesting. Materials were specified for their recycled content and negligible effect on the interior air.

The office building is LEED Silver certified. The process of working through the design and complex renovation of an old warehouse building into this high standard of sustainability has meant that we must make sure the same tough decisions that our clients are faced with as they consider how to use resources responsibly.
