The Carrot River Valley School is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 facility designed to accommodate up to 400 students. This modern school features state-of-the-art classrooms and learning spaces, including an expanded Practical and Applied Arts area, Performing Arts spaces, and Community spaces. The two-story design creates distinct learning zones for elementary, middle years, and high school students, while providing central areas for all students to gather. A dedicated entrance and play area for the kindergarten space ensures a seamless and safe transition to school for younger children.
A large student commons area on the main floor, located near the entrance and the gym, serves as a hub for student and community events. Flexible spaces throughout the school allow teachers to bring their students to secondary learning support areas. Administration offices are strategically distributed across the building to allow for supervision and to remain visually accessible for students.
The showpiece of the second floor is the new learning resource centre. This space is designed with large expanses of glazing to bring in natural light, a flexible open-plan layout to accommodate evolving educational needs, a dedicated section for younger students, and a resource support area for teachers and librarians. Support spaces for teachers, including meeting rooms, offices, and a central staff room, are conveniently located throughout the school.
The facility also includes two gymnasiums: a renovated main gym and a smaller multi-purpose gym that doubles as a performing arts space with retractable seating.
Wood features prominently throughout the building, paying homage to the region’s rich history and the importance of the logging industry and mills in Carrot River and its surroundings. Graphics placed in key areas further celebrate the community’s heritage, highlighting agriculture, forestry, Indigenous communities, the historic main street, grain elevators, and water towers. These elements honour the past while embracing the future as the new school serves the region for many years to come.
