Holy Cross High School Addition and Renovation

Holy Cross High School is the largest school in Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools with over 1,100 students. The original building was constructed in the early 1960s and had long, dark corridors and dis-functional core program areas. Many areas within the school were also not sufficiently allocated to support 21st Century programming.
With the goal to provide an enhanced learning environment for students and staff, our design team worked in close collaboration with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools to identify solutions to gain an addition for a new gymnasium and entry as well as added classrooms. The team uniquely re-organized the existing area to enhance circulation, improve supervision, and create transparency within a school constructed with block walls.
The project included a new gymnasium, a new school entrance and office, five additional classrooms, an industrial arts centre, a new chapel, renovations to various spaces within the school, and updates to the structural, mechanical, and electrical systems. The smaller gymnasium was converted into a cafeteria, and the old cafeteria was transformed into the library. The old library was renovated into office space for staff.
The project was successfully completed while the school was in operation with minimal interruption to the school’s students.
