Humboldt Collegiate Institute is a comprehensive high school designed to house students from Grade 9 to 12. The Institute is connected to Carlton Trail Regional College and the Humboldt Uniplex that includes a hockey arena, a fitness centre, a curling rink, and an aquatic centre. The school was completed in partnership with the Horizon School Division and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools. The integrated facility allows for enhanced learning environment for the students and increased use of the linked facilities for members of the community.

The school features a flexible student commons area that forms the heart of the school. The main entry, gymnasium, theatre, link to the Uniplex and Carlton Trail Regional College, and all educational space can be accessed from this central core. The theatre opens directly onto the student commons, allowing for larger gatherings and flexibility in the space’s use. The gymnasium is a full tournament-sized facility with support spaces. Science classrooms, Industrial Arts, Textiles, and Food Preparation all have purpose-built space. There are also special needs classrooms and support spaces within the facility. General instruction classrooms have been located so the school can be provisioned for future expansion through portable construction.

Communication with stakeholders early and frequently in the design process was a critical factor in the successful design and implementation of the project with minimal disruption to the City of Humboldt’s existing services at the Uniplex.

This project has achieved LEED Silver Certification.
